Exemplary Workflow for Ventilation Design with Autodesk Revit
Step1: Concept phase
The architect creates a concept body and defines rooms or storeys and functional areas. You already use this early concept model for dimensioning and placement of the technical equipment rooms. Afterwards you communicate the results back to the architect using provisions for spaces. If changes are needed, they will be carried out until the positions of the technical equipment rooms are agreed. You then dimension and place the supply pipeline corridors and transfer them back to the model. After any necessary correction loop, the basic framework is set to move forward to the design stage. The architect now knows where space is needed for the MEP design, and time-consuming corrections in later phases can be avoided.
Step 2: MEP Model Creation
Ideally, you already receive the architecture as a Revit model which can be used to create a MEP model when designing the building services engineering. With the help of liNear, you can use the elements from the architectural model (e.g. levels, rooms, materials) and add further information to them. Automatically create the required storeys including work levels and use efficient tools to create spaces, zones and views. The liNear Parameter Manager, allowing the determination and assignment of parameters, is also included.
Step 3: Air Flow Rate Calculation and Duct Network Construction
After creating the MEP model, the volume flows are usually determined first. With the tools provide by liNear you can do this for each room. The outlets are dimensioned on the basis of the volume flow rates. Next, you construct the duct network including all components such as sound absorbers and fire dampers. The duct functions and the command for automatic connection allow you to construct with maximum comfort. The supplied manufacturer libraries allow you to design with objects that are actually available. You have the choice between our liNear Configurator or the device configurators of our industrial partners in order to create the central air handling units. A void planning with powerful collaboration tools simplifies the coordination process with architects and structural engineers in both closed and open BIM projects.
Step 4: Duct Network Calculation
Within the duct network calculation, you not only determine the optimal dimensions of the system with the help of a powerful pressure loss calculation including balancing. In addition, the system is also analyzed in terms of acoustic aspects. All results can also be visually checked with liNear Data Coloring and further optimized. With the calculation, you also consider complex systems, for example with several installations in one project. All results are saved directly to the components and exported during transfer. An eKlimax interface enables the production of all ducts and fittings based on your design work.
Step 5: Labeling and Output of Results
With the automatic labels you can write the results of your design work directly into the model - quickly and simply. You can define and reuse labels globally, per component group or for individual elements. It is also possible to add your own parameters, which can then be included in the labels. All results such as the bill of quantities, the results of the duct network calculation or the sound level calculation are offered in different formats. All information is saved directly in the model. The final MEP model is provided for the BIM process. The IFC format is also available as an option.
