Exemplary Workflow for Heating Design with AutoCAD
Step 1: 2D Design and Scheme Design
From boilers, heat pumps, dwelling stations to radiators and panel heating systems, from control levels with regulating valves to one-pipe systems and multi-boiler systems: With the liNear toolbars, scheme generators, routing commands, connection functions for rigid and flexible pipes, automatic legends, slot design assistants and much more, you can draw calculable systems. Completely independent whether it is designed in the scheme, in the isometry or in the floor plan. The construction serves as the basis for the pipe network calculation. You also receive the functions for creating the architecture based on a drawing of the architect in any format. We provide you with a user interface that optimally supports you in every step of the design process!
Step 2: Heat Load Calculation
It is necessary to first detect the building and analyze the thermal properties in order to calculate the heat load. Building Analysis assumes this task and provides a calculation model as a basis for normative and (building) physical calculations. Once the building has been completely detected and analyzed the heat load is calculated immediately. The heat load is done for the entire project as well as for storeys or individual rooms. With liNear not only the German heat load calculation but also international methods are at your disposal. Optionally, air volume flow rates can also be considered in the heat load.
Step 3: Dimensioning
Based on the determined heat load, you can immediately continue to dimension radiators or convectors or the panel heating systems. From extensive manufacturer libraries you can select your products before the dimensioning is made. You can choose between a quick dimensioning or a detailed dimensioning. With one click, dimensioned components are transferred to the model. Radiators and convectors are automatically inserted and the floor heating is drawn. Adjustments can be made in the model or in the dimensioning process and all changes are transferred bidirectionally.
Step 4: Pipe Network Calculations
With the graphically supported liNear heating pipe network calculation, perfectly dimensioned and hydraulically balanced heating systems are possible in almost all imaginable variants. Both the pipe run scheme and the 2D or 3D floor plan drawing can serve as the basis for the calculation. Several control levels allow hydraulic balancing even of complex systems. The hydraulic circuit assistant can be used to select a large number of circuits. If there are still possibilities for optimization, the program informs you so that you can implement them immediately. Finally, the network is redimensioned. With fixed pipe dimensions, you can also calculate existing systems and optimize or extend the network.
Step 5: 3D Design
This is pipe design that leaves nothing to be desired featuring an easy-to-learn operating concept that makes a difference. Build your three-dimensional and realistic systems in no time. You may switch on real-time checking, which prevents already during construction pipes and components from contacting each other. You can either design directly in 3D or automatically create a 3D pipe network using the calculated single-line pipe network following the pipe network calculation. The correct fittings and joining pieces are selected automatically during construction via the liNear Material Manager. Easily replace 2D symbols with 3D valves from manufacturer component catalogs and get a complete 3D model. Of course the model remains calculable in every design stage. It is also possible to recalculate the model after changes at any time.
Step 6: Labeling and Transfer of Results
Write the results of your design work directly into the model. With the automatic labels, you will do this in a quick and easy way. You can define and reuse labels globally, per component group or for individual elements. It is also possible to add your own parameters, which can be included in the labels. All results, e.g. bill of quantities, pipe network calculation, heating load results or hydraulic balancing can be displayed in different formats. All information is saved directly in the model. The final MEP model can optionally be provided for the BIM process via an IFC interface.
